First day of school…

At at neighborhood block party recently someone mentioned that they’ve noticed how Posies has changed over time, and that they wondered if it had anything to do with my daughter, Anouk, and changing the shop as she changes.  The more I thought about it, I realized that, yes, I have changed the shop in ways that often reflect where I am with my own children.  They are also ways that make managing a business more possible for me, but more and more I see that Posies is often a reflection of where I am in my life with my children. Mother’s Day and Superpowers

When I was twelve I had my first summer with a really close knit group of friends. We went everywhere together - Jordan, TJ, Mandy and me… Not that there were many places kids could go who lived in the middle of nowhere, but it was so fun to have plans every day. An Ode to Jonathan… And other thoughts too

Last night, for the first time in a long time, I cried.  Like really cried.  It was probably a culmination of things, like the sign posted over Thanksgiving on the vacant building next to me that asked what passersby would put in the space, and someone wrote "a coffee shop without kids," or maybe it was watching those ladies from Georgetown Cupcake on Oprah and learning about their overnight success, and how they sell nearly 10,000 cupcakes a day, or maybe it was the stress that comes with running a business alone, during the holidays, in a neighborhood with a struggling retail district, or maybe...
